Fabrication began in October of 2006 after an exhaustive engineering
and design phase which included a complete CADD model to determine
hydrostatics, weights and component geometry. Drive ratios were
optimised and performance on both water and land calculated.
Speeds are 15 mph in water and 55 mph on land, weight is 3300
lbs, total reserve buoyancy of 8000 lbs, AC heat, marine battery
all communications, PA and search lighting will be accommodated.
The simple and robust hull was moulded and will be
foam filled when mated to the aluminium (5086 marine grade) body
and frame. Fenders with be replaceable ABS plastic. Windshield
and cabin glass are bullet resistant Lexan.
.
The design is completely focused on stability and
reliability, the hull and body are purposely designed to maximise
displacement, minimise wind loads and protect the operators from
flying debris. The interior cabin sole is self draining! All
mechanical components are the latest stocking components from
Mercury, GM and Dana
Operational testing has begun, it drives well and
the power steering is surprisingly light, gear reduction is spot-on
using the 6 speed automatic transaxel. Marine drive is via the
Mercury Alpha out drive.
